"Belle Fantaisie"

A recipe book for natural dyeing was designed, obtaining pigments from the extraction of fruits, vegetables, and some spices to be applied on natural fibers such as cotton textiles and paper.

The project is inspired by memories of the “Belle Époque” era that took place between 1871 and 1914. Thus, “Belle Fantaisie” was created as a concept that captures the essence of that time through characteristic images, colors, and sensations.

The recipe book provides detailed instructions for dyes production, from the preparation of the fibers to the extraction of pigments, their cooking process, and the application of various pH modifiers.

The book explores a wide range of color shades such as brown, beige, yellow, blue, green, purple, pink, orange, gray, and black, aiming to capture the hues of the “Belle Époque” for application in a furniture accessory.

-The “Belle Époque” from 1871 to 1914

Paris, the city of light with its café-concerts, cinemas, art exhibitions, ballets, operettas, bookstores, theaters, boulevards, and haute couture workshops.

The Edwardian era continued, marked by exoticism, exuberant Orientalism, and romance. Elegance, exuberance, and extravagance were established, contrasting with touches of modern simplification. It was a time filled with optimism and ambition, centered around pleasure, and remembered as a beautiful and happy era, with a longing to go back to those times.
